We had pumpking pondering all day long (except when we were busy dancing in the gym for the dance-a-thon). Are pumpkins buoyant? Why?
Let's see whose pumpkin has the longest stem and the greatest circumference.
Whose pumpkin is the heaviest, using kilograms? Remember, get your combined weight, then your weight, and subtract to get the pumpkins weight. It's a tie! 8 kg
We need to keep track of each groups results. Mrs. Blackburn (or is that Bob) stopped by to check on our progress.
Now, groups need to clean out the insides to get to the seeds. Predict how many your pumpkin holds.
All groups had a methodical way of tracking how many seeds. Some tried groups of 5, some tried groups 10 and all decided that taking 10 groups of 10 to make a hundred worked very well.
The day finished off with individual designs for the pumpkin carving, collaborating and compromising for a final group design, and finally, drawing it on the pumpkin for Mrs. V.P. to carve.
I forgot to do the draw at the end of the day for 1 person from each group to take home, so I found some homes to send them to (of students who were around after school).
They looked fantastic!
