Snow was sticky and weather was great so instead of our usual outdoor DPA skill games and activities, we raced over (after throwing a few snowballs at the fence) the big hill to the soccer field to build the tallest snow structure! Some chose to work independently, some chose to work in groups or partnerships. I selected a photo and tweeted it out at lunch time. If you haven't requested to join our twitter feed, simply click on the button to the right that says "Class Twitter Account". I've included all the photos from our challenge below. We took a look at a song called "Belly Breathe" by Colbie Callet and a video where children discussed the symptoms of feeling angry/upset/frustrated and what they do to handle the symptoms - breathe. Then, we went over the criteria for what is self-regulation on the learning skills portion of the report card - clarifying what each one means since the language is tricky the way it is worded on the report card. Students broke off into random groupings and discussed what they thought self-regulation would look like, sound like, and feel like in our classroom. We gathered back together after the on-task, cooperative group work to compile all the amazing ideas (just a few pictured above) the entire class came up with. Here is the final product that we will be referring to develop and fine tune students' ability to self-regulate. Very impressive work for last block on the first day back from Christmas holidays!!!
