We are practicing at school the two songs we will sing for the Christmas concert. That isn't enough though to memorize the words. PLEASE practice the two songs at home. Lyrics and links are on the What's The News page

If it didn't make its way home in your child's homework bag, here is what it is.
VoilaLearning.com with code BonjourVoila Since the start of the school year, our class continuously discusses and revisits self-regulation and being the Good News to others as Jesus would do. The WITS program is a great tool that supports and affirms what we already have in place. Mrs. Blackburn read the book The Golden Rule
We had pumpking pondering all day long (except when we were busy dancing in the gym for the dance-a-thon). Are pumpkins buoyant? Why? Let's see whose pumpkin has the longest stem and the greatest circumference. Whose pumpkin is the heaviest, using kilograms? Remember, get your combined weight, then your weight, and subtract to get the pumpkins weight. It's a tie! 8 kg We need to keep track of each groups results. Mrs. Blackburn (or is that Bob) stopped by to check on our progress. Now, groups need to clean out the insides to get to the seeds. Predict how many your pumpkin holds. All groups had a methodical way of tracking how many seeds. Some tried groups of 5, some tried groups 10 and all decided that taking 10 groups of 10 to make a hundred worked very well. The day finished off with individual designs for the pumpkin carving, collaborating and compromising for a final group design, and finally, drawing it on the pumpkin for Mrs. V.P. to carve. I forgot to do the draw at the end of the day for 1 person from each group to take home, so I found some homes to send them to (of students who were around after school).
They looked fantastic! Since the start of the school year we have been working together to create "codes of conduct" for certain areas of the classroom and certain activities throughout the day. On a daily basis, students try their best to follow and to remind each other of appropriate behaviour to meet those codes. Today, we took another look at those, as well as the unwritten expectations for class and school yard behaviour, through the lense of the learning skill RESPONSIBILITY. Here is what they came up with to get a better understanding of what a responsible student/classroom/school yard is like.
Using only acrylic paint and a piece of paper towel, students explored layering and warm colour mixing. I also would like to apologize for the mix up with the swim permission note. Students wrote the correct dates in their agendas on Friday and took the notes back home to get adjusted. Please send the permission form back on Monday, signed. Thank you.
All the practising by the students really paid off because boys and girls were ready for every part of the liturgy. I tried to capture everyone doing their part whether it was reading, announcing, or bringing up the gifts. Father Matthew's homily on cleansing our souls through personal prayer, asking forgiveness, and the sacrament of confession was very enlightening. It was also wonderful to hear him repeat an important message we hear every year at this time... to be thankful for all that God gives us. Thank Him with prayer and by being the Good News (our school board theme) by being a good neighbour to one another. Mrs. Blackburn took time after the liturgy to thank all those who had a helping hand to prepare the liturgy including Mrs. Fitzel and the choir (many of whom were grade 3 students with beautiful voices although we were missing one due to illness and he was really missed.) She also introduced our added activity associated with our school initiative of Bucket Filling. When a student is seen to be filling a bucket (eg. through being helpful, being a role model, being kind, etc.), any educator may write them a ticket recognizing that's students behaviour. The ticket is then placed in one of 4 buckets found at the office. At the end of each month a ticket will be drawn from each bucket and the name on the ticket wins a prize (prizes are a choice of chapters gift card, itunes gift card, a sports ball, or a package of art materials). Just today, I handed out 4 tickets to students in our class. |
